Do you hate Excel? Well, that sucks, because I don’t and I’m about to show you the Spreadsheet Invasion assignment! This assignment tells you to reclaim Excel and use colors as your medium…Essentially, make a movie of art creation in Excel using those pesky little cells and a lot a bit of COLOR!
WAIT, THIS ISN’T DESIGN WEEK!!!!
RRRRRREEEEEEMMMMMMMIIIIIIIIXXXXXX!
If you didn’t hate Excel before, and if you tried the Spreadsheet Invasion assignment already, how about putting a remix card with it? Let me show you how it’s done! My Spreadsheet Invasion was remixed with none other than the Dr. Suess It. Introduce a character, quote, or other element inspired by Dr. Seuss? Okay, this may take some effort…
If you watch the project video from the Spreadsheet Invasion, you can tell there was a lot of effort put in to pull together their assignment. After watching it, I still didn’t understand how I was going to create a video like that. I then went through examples from previous students and I found this video that showed the whole screen…
Essentially they took a screenshot of excel, pasted in paint, saved them as images and then strung them together into a video. AWESOME, now I know how to do the assignment! Excel, Paint, Moviemaker, Repeat…like, a LOT of Repeat…no seriously, try it, you’ll find out.
So I know how to do the original assignment, but now how should I incorporate Dr. Seuss?
So, that was my remix of the Spreadsheet Invasion with a twist of The Cat in The Hat! When I first took on the project, I figured it wouldn’t take any longer than 30-45 minutes…boy I was wrong! This assignment took almost 2 hours!! …And was worth every star! Anyone else want to take on the assignment? Let’s see all the Seuss characters take over Excel!
This is really incredible Rob, the spreadsheet invasion alone is a lot to do, but rendering a cat in the hat in it? Over the top!
Let’s see you could have different characters in different worksheets…
